When LaM was founded, Geneviève and Jean Masurel wanted to establish a library, enriched by their own collection and that of Roger Dutilleul, which was remarkable for the 20th century. This initial collection grew thanks to significant donations, notably those of Dominique Bozo and Maurice Jardot.
The donation of L'Aracine in 1999 made the LaM library a reference in art brut, since supplemented by collections such as those of Michel Nedjar and Kiyoko Lerner. Today, the library is enriched by 500 to 800 works per year.
Using archive material held at the library, the museum has created an online database of landscape architects, men and women who, like Facteur Cheval, transformed their living spaces to better ‘live poetically in the world’. New content from the museum's archives and contributions from internet users regularly enrich the database.
The library has launched an online research journal on the Hypothèses portal, which reports on researches conducted by the LaM. This journal also highlights works carried out on the collection through research programmes, residencies for teacher-researchers and artists, study days and calls for papers in which the LaM is involved.
