LaM Vagabond 

While the museum is closed, LaM will be offering a rich and varied programme of events outside its walls, covering the Lille European Metropolis, the Hauts-de-France region and beyond, and reflecting the full range of the museum's activities. It includes exhibitions in venues such as the Condition Publique in Roubaix, the Ferme d'en Haut, the Espace Culture at the University of Lille, and the Bibliothèque Cœur de Bellain in Douai.

In addition to these exhibitions, festive cabarets will be organised in partner structures with performances, concerts and shows, while the ‘Cafés du LaM’ will offer convivial moments in various cafés in the metropolis and the region, hosting debates, creative workshops and games.

Continuing its commitment to inclusion and diversity, LaM is also collaborating with Établissements Publics de Santé Mentale and a number of historical partners to organise exhibitions and study days on themes such as raw music practices and ethical issues.

Capsule exhibitions" will also showcase works from the collection in partner museums such as the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Lille and La Piscine in Roubaix.

A selection of masterpieces from the LaM collection will be shown internationally, with exhibitions at the Bund One Art Museum in Shanghai and the ARoS Aarhus Kunst Museum in Denmark.

Objectives of the work

Since September 29, 2024, the LaM has been temporarily closed for renovation work. It will reopen in early 2026 with an exceptional retrospective dedicated to the work of Wassily Kandinsky, produced in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou.

This major project, led by the European Metropolis of Lille, is part of the museum's various renovation projects undertaken since 2022. Its main objective is to address environmental and heritage conservation issues while making the museum even more accessible, welcoming, and vibrant.

In the buildings, plans include restoring the facades and roofs and replacing the glazing in the Roland Simounet building. Certain administrative and public reception areas will also be redesigned and redesigned.

Regarding the park, the work includes the restoration of the main bluestone walkway leading to the museum entrance. Some roofs and internal patios will also be landscaped and planted to create a more pleasant environment.

In parallel with this work, a major collection project is underway. This project includes the continuation of the ten-year inventory of the works, as well as the verification of their general condition as part of a preventive conservation approach.
