In renovated buildings, the LaM will re-open on February 20 2026 and will present a large retrospective devoted to Vassily Kandinsky, a major figure of 20th century art.

Co-organized with the Centre Pompidou - Paris, this exhibition will explore a little-known aspect of the artist's work: the role of images.

Photographs, scientific illustrations or press... far from being mere sources of inspiration, they nourish the visual thought of the artist and support his quest for abstraction.

Through a unique collection of works and archives from Nina Kandinsky's donation to the Centre Pompidou and exceptional loans from European public and private institutions, the exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the importance of images in the work of one of the founders of abstraction.

Curation

Jeanne-Bathilde Lacourt, LaM's modern art curator.
